Daryll Neita recently opened up after beating a star-studded lineup at the Shanghai Diamond League 2024.
Neita started her 2024 season with a sensational victory in the women’s 200m at the Shanghai Diamond League held in Suzhou on April 27. The British sprinter crossed the finish line with a time of 22.62s as she earned a dominant victory over the USA’s Anavia Battle, who clocked a time of 22.99s.
In the same event, World 100m champion and 200m bronze medalist Sha'Carri Richardson came third, achieving a time of 23.11s. The field also comprised World Championships relay gold medalist, Tamara Clark, and Swiss national record holder, Mujinga Kambundji, who secured fourth and fifth-place finishes, respectively.
After her stellar season-opener in the second Diamond League series of 2024, Daryll Neita expressed her happiness in a post-match interview (via Wanda Diamond League), stating:
"I feel amazing. It was such a strong field and to run that time at this stage of the season is amazing.”
The 27-year-old also showed her delight as the crowd had come in huge numbers to support the track and field athletes at the Suzhou Olympic Sports Centre in Jiangsu, adding:
“To hear the crowd, who were so loud and receive so much support from the Chinese people was something else.”
Neita then mentioned what would be her primary focus for the remaining season, adding:
“My main focus for the rest of the season is to stay healthy and in one piece. I hope to really win a medal at the Olympics.”
A look into Daryll Neita’s top achievements
Daryll Neita was an integral member of the women’s 4x100m relay team of Great Britain that won bronze medals at the Rio Olympics 2016 and Tokyo Olympics 2020, where she ran the fourth leg on both occasions.
At the World Athletics Championships, she bagged three medals, including two silver and a bronze, all of which came in the women’s 4x100m relay event.
Neita has also collected three medals at the European Championships which includes an individual bronze in 100m in the 2022 edition held in Munich. Moreover, the four-time British national champion clinched the bronze medal in the 60m event at the European Indoor Championships held in Istanbul in 2023.
