Noah Lyles has revealed that he has been getting inside information about the Jamaican camp from his girlfriend Junelle Broomfield.
The rivalry between Jamaica and the USA has been peaking with the Paris Olympics around the corner, and that has only increased thanks to Lyles's latest comments. In an interview on Colin Waitzman's Track World News, he spoke about his relationship with Jamaican 400-meter runner Bromfield. The two have been dating for almost two years now.
The 26-year-old said that he has learned a lot about the Jamaican track camps in the last five years thanks to Bromfield.
"Junelle being Jamaican and having trained in MVP, I have been getting the drama from the Jamaican camp at least five years now. There is a lot of times where I make references about Jamaicans but I am not trying to go back and forth, like I know information that other people don't," he said.
Lyles also said that Bromfield was close friends with Shericka Jackson and that she was recently buying wigs for the two-time world 200m champion.
"Junelle and Elaine used to be very close friends in 2021 since they trained together and then she became close friends with Shericka, they are still close. In the series you also see Junelle doing Shericka’s hair. She was just buying wigs for Shericka to take to the Olympics," he added.
Noah Lyles reveals conversations with Junelle Bromfield about Kishane Thompson
The men’s 100m is one of the most eagerly anticipated events at the 2024 Paris Olympics, let alone in Track & Field. It will see some of the finest American athletes take not their Jamaican counterparts, with Noah Lyles and Kishane Thompson headlining the event.
Lyles has now revealed that his conversations with his girlfriend Junelle Broomfield also included Thompson and Oblique Seville.
"Talk about Kishane and Oblique, she is very close to Kishane. I mean, I’ve known a lot of people that others might not have any idea about. Junelle’s eye for talent is very strong and if she says someone is going to run fast, they usually run fast," he said.
He also clarified his recent comments about Thompson and explained that he did not wish bad luck for the 23-year-old.
"I said that ("I hope he stays injured") about Kishane because I know he's had a horrid history with injuries and that everytime he runs fast, he usually has to be taken off, so the fact that he was able to keep going its like 'oh, this is great, he's actually being able to show his full potential,'" he opined.
Lyles will be hoping to put all the drama behind him when he takes part in the London Diamond League, which is the final competitive event before the Summer Games.
