American Olympic champion Jordan Chiles voiced her disappointment over the outcome of the 2024 US elections. Donald Trump returned for his second term as the President of the United States following his victory over the Democratic nominee Kamala Harris.
Trump will assume office as the 47th President of the United States after clinching the required minimum of 270 electoral college votes with 277. Harris, who won 224, replaced Joe Biden as the Democratic nominee just 14 weeks before the election. The victory also makes Trump the second person in the United States presidential history after Grover Cleveland to serve non-consecutive terms.
The election results seem to have left Chiles, who secured a gold medal as part of the US gymnastics team in the all-around event at the Paris Olympics, seemingly heartbroken. She expressed her dismay over the results on X as she wrote:
"Could things get any worse… I’m heart broken… just WOW."
The 23-year-old also reposted fellow American and WNBA star Angel Reese's tweet which read:
"God is the best author and the best finisher. I’m just going to pray on this & think positive."
Both Chiles and Reese had encouraged the people of the United States to vote via posts on X.
Jordan Chiles expresses her frustration after being stripped of her only individual Olympic medal - "It was the recognition of who I was"
During her Paris Olympics campaign, Jordan Chiles initially placed fifth in the floor exercise with a score of 13.666. However, an appeal from her coach Cecile Landi led to an update in her difficulty score and her score was revised to 13.766 points, moving her up to the bronze medal position.
However, her medal was later rescinded after the Romanian Gymnastics Federation appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, arguing that Landi's appeal was submitted beyond the permissible time limit. The medal was subsequently reallocated to Romania's Ana Barbosu.
Expressing her disappointment over the decision, Chiles said during the Forbes Power Women's Summit:
"The biggest thing that was taken from me was, it was the recognition of who I was. Not just my sport, but the person I am."
Jordan Chiles is currently taking some time off after wrapping up her 2024 season at the Paris Olympics and finishing the Gold Over America Tour on Sunday, November 3, in Detroit.
