Lindsey Vonn announced the venue of her first competitive race shortly after coming out of retirement at the age of 40. She has been training in recent weeks and will be seen in action during the December leg of the 2024/25 Alpine Ski World Cup.

Vonn is one of the greatest alpine skiers in history and held the record for most wins (82) by a female in the World Cup circuit until Mikaela Shiffrin overtook her in early 2023. She has three Olympic medals to her name and has won the World Cup overall title four times in her career.

The 40-year-old made her World Cup debut in November 2000 at the age of 16 and after 19 years of brilliance on the snow, she hung up her shoes in 2019 following a series of injuries. Five years after announcing her retirement, Vonn found a calling for the sport yet again.

The American announced her comeback on Thursday (Nov. 14) and recently revealed the venue of her first race of the season as well. Sharing her concerns over the size of her uniform, Vonn wrote on X:

"Well, it’s off to Colorado…. I hope the @usskiteam uniform still fits…"

Vonn will likely compete in her specialty event, downhill, the first of which takes place at the Beaver Creek resort in Colorado. The women's race is scheduled for December 14.

Lindsey Vonn suffered scary crashes in her career before retiring from the sport in 2019. However, when she underwent knee replacement surgery earlier this year, and after 10 weeks of recovery time, the 40-year-old didn't feel any pain.

“I had a smile so wide it was coming through the back of my helmet,” Vonn told the New York Times recalling the moment.

The joy brought the desire to compete actively and while the American doesn't want to set lofty goals for herself, she isn't backing down without a fight as well.

“I’m trying not to get too far ahead of myself because I have quite a few hoops to jump through, But I’m not going to put myself in a position to fail. My goal is to enjoy this, and hopefully that road takes me to World Cup races," Lindsey Vonn added.

Vonn expressed excitement about getting to race again with compatriot Mikaela Shiffrin, who currently holds the record for most victories (97) in history.
