Gabby Thomas shared that she was unaware of the outcome if she ever broke or lost an Olympic medal. After amassing three gold medals at the Paris Olympics, Thomas returned to the sporting arena as a Grand Marshal at the 2024 NYC Marathon.

Thomas was part of the 4x100m relay gold-winning team and won the individual 200m silver at the 2023 World Championships. The same year, she reached the 200m gold podium at the fourth Diamond League stop in Paris. Building up to the Games, Thomas soared to the 200m victory in 21.82s at the 2024 London Diamond League.

Having graced the Paris Olympic track as the US top seed, the double Olympian earned gold in the 200m, 4x100m, and 4x400m relay events and walked home as the most decorated US sprinter from the Paris Olympics.

Thomas busied herself with several off-mat engagements, including fashion shows, interviewing Nicki Minaj at a Vogue event, and even a special appearance at the 2024 US Open finals. The triple Olympic gold medalist then shifted her attention to the New York City Marathon but not as a competitor. She stepped into the last of six World Marathon Majors events as the Grand Marshal.

Since her Olympic success, Thomas has been carrying her gold medals with her everywhere she goes. Even at the NYC Marathon, she had them in her backpack. When the New Balance-sponsored 'All on the Run Show' host asked the five-time Olympic medalist about the insurance of her medals, Thomas said that the outcome of losing the possessions was unknown to her.

"That is a good question. I don't know what happens if you lose or break your medal or anything. I have no idea what happens," she said. (12:00)

Gabby Thomas concluded her track season after participating at the 2024 Athlos NYC, having headlined the 200m roster. However, she faded to second while Brittany Browns took the win.

Gabby Thomas posted a photo of her in a black-and-beige outfit, addressing the audience at the NYC Marathon. She paired the post with a heartwarming note for her sponsors, New Balance and New York Road Runners, who honored her as the Grand Marshal.

"Thank you @newbalance and @nyrr for granting me the opportunity of being Grand marshal for this year’s @nycmarathon."

She further weighed in on the beauty of the marathon and how it brings people together from all walks of life.

"Running is so much more than just a sport- it taught me about discipline, resilience, and finding joy in pushing limits. This marathon brings people together from all backgrounds and communities through the transformative power of running, and I was able to witness that today."

In 2024, Gabby Thomas was also part of the gold-winning 4x400m and 4x100m relay teams at the World Relays in Nassau.
