Former fastest man in the world Tim Montgomery has claimed that there was a 99% chance that the sprinters who qualify for the 100m finals at the Olympic Games are involved in some kind of doping. He doesn't believe one can be the fastest man on earth without being 'dirty'.
Montgomery is a former American sprinter who set the 100m men’s world record in 2002 with a time of 9.78s. He had earlier won the gold medal in the 4x100m relay at the 2000 Olympics and the silver medal at the 1996 Olympic Games.
In 2005, Montgomery was stripped of the record and the medals he had won from 2001 after being found guilty of using performance-enhancing drugs. He has also spent time in prison after being found guilty of dealing heroin and being part of a check fraud scam. The 49-year-old now trains athletes under his company NUMA Speed.
Speaking with the Daily Mail in an interview, Tim Montgomery claimed that based on his knowledge of pharmacology, there was a 99% chance that the sprinters who are in the Olympic finals are involved in doping.
"If you're in the finals of the Olympic Games, I'm going to say there's a 99 percent chance you're dirty," he said. "I wouldn't even try to train you for it… I know pharmacology when I see it."
He also added that it was impossible to be the fastest man or woman on Earth without the use of steroids or performance-enhancing drugs.
"But in track and field, to be the fastest man on earth or the fastest woman on earth? I just don't see how you can do that clean," he added.

Tim Montgomery was banned for two years in 2005 following his admission of using performance-enhancing drugs. In 2008, a year before Usain Bolt set the world record of 9.58s, Montgomery was sentenced to five years in prison for dealing heroin.
The retired sprinter claimed he was dreaming of racing against Usain Bolt during his time in prison but added that following his return from prison, he only had regrets left in him.
"I cannot go back and see how great I could have been. But had I not gone through that, this might have been a different story," he said in the same interview with the Daily Mail.
Tim Montgomery started his business/athletic venture NUMA Speed in 2014. He trains athletes from all fields of the sport.
