Katie Ledecky recently reflected on the incident of being unimpressed by Michael Jordan as a toddler. The Paris Olympic gold medalist recalled playing peekaboo with the basketball legend as a two-year-old.
Following her successful run at the 2024 Paris Olympics, the American swimmer made an appearance on The Jimmy Fallon Show. In one of the segments, she pondered on the funny memory involving the NBA legend, saying she was surprisingly unimpressed and more focused on enjoying her popcorn.
Further, the American swimming star acknowledged recognizing Jordan but wasn't amazed by his presence then.
"It was at a Wizards game. He was just joining the ownership group, and my Uncle John was part of the ownership group of the Washington Capitals and Wizards," Ledecky said. "And so I was at the game, and he started playing peekaboo with me while I was eating my popcorn. And I was completely unfazed."
"I actually knew that it was him. I just, I guess, was unimpressed. I don't know why... I just was more impressed by my popcorn," she added.
Describing the incident in detail she added,
"Our friend Zach is sitting next to us. And you can even see right there, I said, 'Michael Jordan.' He said, 'Do you know who that is?' I said, 'Michael Jordan.'"
Jordan played for the Washington Wizards from 2001 to 2003 before professionally retiring from the sport on April 16, 2003.
"Doing something a little different" - Katie Ledecky reveals what made her great in the swimming realm
With four medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Katie Ledecky became the most decorated female American Olympian. So far, the swimmer has collected 14 Olympic medals, including nine gold, four silver, and one bronze medal.
In an interview with CBS Morning following the Paris Games victory, Ledecky opened up on what made her one the greatest swimmers, saying she had a unique swimming stroke that set her apart from other swimmers.
"When I was first coming on to the scene, I was swimming with a bit of a different stroke than a lot of the other female distance swimmers were swimming with and I think that's really what made me so great, what shot me onto the scene was doing something a little different," she said.
"I hope that in the future and maybe even today people can say, 'Oh she swims like Katie Ledecky,' or, 'She has Katie's stroke.'"
Katie Ledecky secured her fourth consecutive Olympic gold medal in the 800m at the Paris Games.
