Before being adopted by her grandparents, Ronald and Nellie Biles, the gymnast and her siblings, Adria, Tevin, and Ashley, were in foster care and were visited by their grandparents. The 27-year-old was adopted after three years of staying at the place and then was adopted at the age of 6 by her grandparents. This is when Biles realized her passion for gymnastics.

In 2023, Biles sat in an interview with Stand Together, where she opened up about her time in foster care and how she relates with the kids there:

"I am Simone Biles, and I was a former foster kid. I was in a foster home with my siblings for a couple of years. I know exactly what these kids go through and kind of what these kids need to be successful when they're older. Having that one constant person in their life from whenever they're young, all the way through high school graduation, that's actually really beneficial to the kids." [00:16]

The gymnast concluded her 2024 season on November 3 after performing at the Gold Over America Tour for almost two months. Ahead of this, she competed at the 2024 Summer Games in Paris, France, where she won three Olympic gold medals and one silver medal.

Simone Biles on life after getting adopted by her grandparents

Simone Biles once opened up about how getting adopted by her grandparents after her biological mother, Shannon Biles, was struggling through her issues changed her life in the Facebook Watch series, Simone vs. Herself. Here, she extended her gratitude toward Ronald and Nellie Biles:

"Being separated from my biological mom, being placed in foster care before I officially got adopted by my grandparents, it just set me up for a better route at life. And I feel like I wouldn't be where I am unless that turning point happened.
I would still be Simone Biles, probably not Simone Biles that everybody else knows, the world knows. But I also believe everything happens for a reason and I'm forever grateful for that because I definitely got a second shot at life."

Biles became the most decorated gymnast after winning four Olympic medals at the 2024 Summer Games in Paris, France.
