"I was like I wish I could go back and shake myself" - Gabby Thomas recalls emotional Taylor Swift moment after gold medal victory at Paris Olympics

Gabby Thomas recently revealed that Taylor Swift's lyrics from her 2008 song Fifteen hit her after winning three gold medals at the Paris Olympics 2024. The Olympic champion recalled listening to lyrics, 'You'll do things greater than dating a guy on the football team' in her childhood, hoping it would turn out to be true.

Thomas was the overwhelming favorite in the 200m final at the Paris Olympics after Jamaica's Shericka Jackson withdrew. She secured a comfortable victory, beating 100m Olympic champion Julien Alfred in 21.83s.

The 27-year-old won gold medals in the 4x100m relay and 4x400m relay as well. She ran third during the finals of both competitions, playing a key role in the USA's dominant display.

Speaking on the podcast 'Ali on the Run,' Thomas recalled remembering the lyrics of Taylor Swift's 2008 song Fifteen.

"I remember very vividly like after winning my gold medals in Paris, thinking back to the Taylor Swift lyric, 'in your life, you'll do things greater than dating a guy on the football team' and I remember that when I was a younger girl, maybe 12 or 13, when that came out and thinking okay, maybe, I hope so. I have no idea where my life will take and these boys are so cute," she recalled [14:30 0nwards]

The five-time Olympic medalist also added that she wanted to go back to her 12-year-old self and tell her that she indeed was going to achieve bigger things in life.

"I was like, 'I wish I could go back and shake myself and just be like oh God, you have so much coming, you have no idea.' These little things don't matter but Taylor knew," she added.

Gabby Thomas recently joined Sports Illustrated Swimsuit as an athlete model and will feature in the 2025 edition of the magazine. The three-time Olympic champion is currently undergoing shooting in Florida, as per SI.

"Gabby Thomas has sprinted her way towards three gold medals at the 2024 Paris Games and now she’s sprinting onto the SI Swimsuit set as our newest athlete feature for the 2025 issue! ," the SI wrote while announcing the partnership

Thomas joins a long list of Olympic medalists to feature on the SI Swimsuit cover. Suni Lee, Simone Biles, and Ilona Maher are some of the current Olympians featured in the magazine.
