Noah Lyles opened up about despising Oblique Seville's stare-down when the latter defeated the American at the Racers Grand Prix in Jamaica, in the build-up to the Paris Games. After the defeat, Lyles issued a note for Seville in anticipation of outpacing him in Paris.

Lyles and Seville went head-on in the 100m at the Racers Grand Prix, where the Jamaican clocked 9.82s to defeat a quality field and better his personal best time. Lyles finished second in 9.85s and got stared down by his younger counterpart before the latter touched the finish line before him.

The moment stirred the track world and Noah Lyles was quick to take to his X handle and throw a challenge to Seville.

"Oh yah… I’ll remember this! See you in Paris @ObliqueSeville," he wrote.

In the second season of the Netflix docuseries "Sprint," Lyles opined on Seville's form ahead of the 100m semi-finals. As both shared space behind the track, the 100m world champion recalled the stare down at the Racers Grand Prix, saying:

"Oblique is looking really good. I got beat by Oblique in Jamaica. I didn't like that but that just fuels my fire. This is our first time meeting since. So let's go, let me get my payback." (11:50)

As the rivals lined up for the semi-finals, Oblique was heard saying:

"When I line up beside Noah Lyles, a bit of nervousness is very good, but I'm so relaxed. I've been working on my start to get it perfect."

Lyles and Seville shared glances with each other before touching the 100m semi finals finish line, a moment they shared to solidify their rivalry on the track.

Having made a name in the 200m first, Noah Lyles opened up on how his coach incorporated training for the 100m in his sessions in 2023. His aim was to go for the 2023 World Championships first and move towards the Olympics, as shared on the Letsrundotcom podcast.

"It wasn't until we got to 2023, where we really started getting stronger in the weight room, and I was being able to handle a lot of practices for the 100[m]. So all, you know, the ideas and the structures that we were building up to was finally coming together, and then we're like okay, if we can't get it in 2023 [World Championships], then you know we're going to have to change something seriously." He then confirmed his return to his forte event after missing out on the podium due to ill health.

"I lose, I come back next year. You know just like this Olympics, did I want to get COVID? Heck no! Did I want to win? Definitely, but if I don't, I'm gonna come back again!"
