Quincy Hall has lashed out at Noah Lyles after the world champion felt he wasn't a great starter and didn't put him in his 4x400m relay team. Hall was part of the USA's gold-winning 4x400m relay at the 2023 World Championships and is expected to be part of the relay team at the Paris Olympics 2024 as well.
Noah Lyles has expressed the desire to go after four gold medals at the Paris Olympics, and for that, he needs to compete in the 4x400m relay alongside the 4x100m relay, 100m, and 200m. While the last three are his favorite events, the 4x400m relay isn't.
The world champion recently spoke in a podcast and maintained his stance of wanting to compete in the event in Paris. He formulated the 4x400m relay team as well, putting himself for the second leg while omitting the current U.S. 400m champion Quincy Hall from the team.
“The only reason I wouldn’t use the current U.S. champion is because I don’t think that he would be a starter. I feel like using him on the first leg would just be almost like a waste to his talent. I just don’t see him getting his full capability out of the first leg,” Lyles said.
Hall has now hit back hard at the 200m American record holder, stating that he was ready to take on anyone who thought they could beat him.
In another post, Hall clarified his stance, saying:
“To the people thinking I’m a bad person cause my last post you just gotta know me to know I’m a competitor and always have been so don’t take nun personal I’m just ready for anybody and everybody i won and lost before but always been a dog while doing it."
Quincy Hall becomes the ninth-fastest American of all time
Quincy Hall has been on the track and field scene for several years but this year, he has made some noise on the international stage. After winning the U.S. Olympic Trials in 44.17s, the 25-year-old ran a world-leading 400m at the Monaco Diamond League.
Hall clocked a blistering 43.80s to become the fastest 400m runner in 2024. It marked his new personal best in the distance, making him the ninth-fastest runner in American history. Hall is one of the strongest contenders for a 400m medal at the Paris Olympics 2024.
