Christian Miller hopes to compete at the 2028 LA Olympics after finishing fifth in the 100m at the US Track and Field Olympic Trials and not earning a qualification at the 2024 Summer Games in Paris. However, his impressive time of 9.93s has kept him on the run for the 4x100m relay.
At the 2023 USATF U20 Outdoor Championships, Miller, the Creekside High School standout, ran the 100m in 10.06s to set the U18 world record. He also won the 200m in 20.51s to cement his name as the reigning national champion.
At the Pure Athletics Spring Invitational in Clermont, Florida, Christian Miller lowered his 100m U18 world record time to 9.93s. His efforts also broke the six-year-old U20 American record of Trayvon Bromell, who ran in 9.97s in 2017.
Miller was on his way to make the 100m Olympic team at the 2024 US Track and Field Olympic Trials. He ran the heat in 10.22s and advanced to the semifinals, where he ran in 9.94s. In the finals, he faced the likes of Noah Lyles, Kenny Bednarek, and Fred Kerley, and clocked 9.98s, finishing fifth.
Taking to his Instagram, Miller posted a carousel of photos, which included clips from his Olympic Trials days. His caption demonstrated his wish to gun for the 2028 LA Olympics and earn a qualification in the individual events.
"Dear 2028 Olympics…I’ll see u soon. Excited to see where God leads me next," he wrote.
The first photo featured him alongside his coach Ricky Fields of the Jacksonville, Florida-based St. Johns Strider Track Club. The next photo was of him running in the 100m and the fourth had a quote, reading:
"Who's Christian Miller? 18-Year-Old TRUSTED GOD'S PLAN in Men's 100 Meters US Olympic Trials Final."
Miller has been added to the 4x100m relay pool after finishing fifth in the 100m men's finals at the Olympic Trials.
Christian Miller - "It's just nothing but God bringing me to where he wants to be"
Christian Miller has ended his 100m Olympic bid but doesn't regret his loss. He claims it to be God's wish for him to compete at that level with the world's best runners. The 18-year-old wants to trust God's plan moving forward as well.
"It's just nothing but God bringing me to where he wants to be and I'm excited to see where he's going to guide me next. I kind of just talked to him [coach] about just trusting God's plan because after the prelims it definitely seemed like I was counted out but I just went back and trusted that God brought me here for a reason," he said in a post-race interview with CITIUS Mag.
The track and field events in the Paris Olympics will commence on August 1, 2024.
