American gymnast has Jade Carey shared her career plans for 2025 after clinching two Olympic medals at the Paris Olympics this year. The 24-year-old gymnast hinted at not competing in elite gymnastics for a while. Carey is currently accompanying legendary gymnast Simone Biles in the ‘Gold Over America Tour.’
Arizona-born Carey has undeniably proven herself as a gymnastics prodigy since her elite career began in 2016. In 2017, she secured two silver medals at the World Championships, one in floor exercise and another in vault. However, she truly showcased her talent at the 2018 Pan American Championships, where she won three gold medals. Carey's impressive career continued in 2019 with a silver and gold medal at the World Championships, and she added to her medal count in 2022 with two gold and a bronze medal.
Furthermore, the young gymnast won her first-ever Olympic gold medal in the floor exercise event at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. More recently, she contributed to Team USA's gold medal victory and also secured an individual bronze medal in vault at the Paris Olympics 2024.
Carey recently spoke with Olympics.com about her plans for 2025. The gymnast said that she's prioritizing some well-deserved "downtime" and won't be competing in elite gymnastics during the initial part of the next year. However, she remained non-committal about the duration of this break.
“I think probably in the beginning, I’ll take it a little bit slow so I have a little bit of downtime. But you never know with me,” the 24-year-old said.
Furthermore, she talked about being focused on training with her collegiate team.
“I feel like I can’t really [hold back]. I like to dive right in, but I’m excited to be able to really focus on my team this year,” said Carey. “I’m not doing elite this year, so I just have them to focus on and that’s it. I’m really excited to jump in with them and be a leader and help get them to where we want to go.”
The gymnast is committed to team Oregon State Beavers from Oregon State University. She officially signed with the team in 2017.
Jade Carey redeemed herself at the Paris Olympics 2024
Jade Carey, who won two Olympic medals in Paris last month, managed to turn her long-wished goals into reality. The young gymnast was one of the members of Team USA that won the team title by defeating teams like Italy and Brazil. In the process, they reclaimed the title after eight long years.
Carey also redeemed herself in the vault finals, securing a bronze medal with a powerful score of 14.466. This victory marked a triumphant comeback after a heartbreaking fall in the 2020 Olympics.
After the Olympics, Carey shared her happiness on social media. She posted a picture of herself from the Olympics on Instagram along with the caption,
“Redemption tour complete, making this olympic team and bringing home a vault medal was such a big goal of mine. thank you to everyone for all of your love and support."
Furthermore, she thanked her fans for their support. She also emphasized the importance of trusting the process and having faith in one’s dreams.
