Paris-bound Gabby Thomas received a heartfelt video message from Joe Jonas, a member of the popular American pop-rock band, The Jonas Brothers. The latter also hinted at his entry at the Games as the supporter of Thomas, which made the athlete jump in ecstasy.
Gabby Thomas, 27, clinched the 200m bronze and a 4x100m relay silver at the Tokyo Olympics. Coming into another Olympic year in 2024, the was a heavy 200m favorite as the world championships silver medalist. Her performances in the 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams secured a double-gold podium at the 2024 World Athletics Relays in Nassau.
Thomas competed at the 2024 US Olympic Trials, and soared to the 200m victory in 21.81s during the final, leaving reigning 100m world champion Sha'Carri Richardson out of the podium.
"This is incredible. I'm just ecstatic," Thomas shared with NBC.
The 27-year-old recently received a message of appreciation from Joe Jonas, a member of the pop rock band, The Jonas Brothers. Jonas said he was a Gabby Thomas fan and would love to watch her in Paris, as posted by an X page.
"Hey Gabby what's up, it's Joe from the Jonas Brothers. I'm a big fan of yours and I know you're a fan of our music, you play our music in your playlist when you train, which is, what an honor, thank you so much.. I hope to see you in person do your thing and represent Team USA. I know you're gonna be fantastic. Best of luck, go Team USA. Hope to see you in person soon," he said in the video.
Simultaneously, Thomas' reaction was also recorded, and the sprinter shed tears of joy.
"I'm freaking out. I can't believe this," she said.
Gabby Thomas triumphed at the 2024 London Diamond League
At the 2024 London Diamond League, the last Olympic tune-up and the final installment before the Games, Gabby Thomas took the 200m victory in 21.82s, shifting Julien Alfred to second and Asher-Smith to third.
Thomas' stellar time also set the meeting record, lowering 22.10s, previously held by Elaine Thompson-Herah since 2015.
"I feel really good. It's made me feel confident going into the Paris Games after that one," Thomas said. (via Olympics.com)
