Noah Lyles lauded CNN and the public in general for appreciating the success 16-year-old Quincy Wilson has achieved after the high schooler appeared on the broadcasting network on July 3rd. Wilson produced record-breaking performances at the recently concluded U.S. Olympic Trials, booking himself a place in the summer’s Paris Olympics.
Wilson broke a 42-year-old U18 world record in the opening 400m round at Olympic Trials. He clocked 44.66s to qualify for the semifinals, where he broke the record again. The high-schooler ran a blistering 44.59 to advance to the finals.
The 16-year-old had to finish in the top 3 to qualify for the 400m team for Paris Olympics 2024. He felt short, placing 6th after clocking 44.94 seconds. However, Wilson was later named in the 4x400m relay pool and expressed his happiness in an interview with CNN. He also expressed the desire to help the USA’s 4x400m relay team win the Olympic gold medal.
Noah Lyles, who has repeatedly expressed his admiration for Quincy Wilson over the past few months, claimed that he was delighted to see the 16-year-old get the attention he deserved. The world champion also expressed happiness over the high schooler being appreciated on social media.
"I love to see Quincy getting this attention! He is definitely deserves it and I’m glad people see the greatness he has already accomplished," he wrote.
Lyles qualified in the 100m and 200m events for the Paris Olympics 2024. He will also be a part of the 4x100m relay squad. Although the world champion has expressed the desire to run the 4x400m relay at the Paris Olympics 2024 in pursuit of a quadruple gold, it remains to be seen what decision the USATF will take.
Noah Lyles is aiming for three world records at the Paris Olympics
Noah Lyles has repeatedly expressed his desire to win four gold medals at the Paris Olympics 2024 in the 100m, 200m, 4x100m relay, and 4x400m relay events. While he has a bright chance of winning the first three events, his participation in the fourth event remains a question mark. Lyles has raced 400m rarely in the last few years, the last instance being the 2024 World Athletics Indoor Championships, which caused controversy later.
Lyles aims to do the quadruple because no sprinter has ever done it in history. However, while his chances of doing so remain low, he has another big dream in his eyes; three world records.
“Last year I went out there and won three gold medals. This year I want to get four. And if I don’t get four, I am going after three world records,” he said (via The Guardian).
Noah Lyles is very close to Usain Bolt's 200m world record and could break it in Paris. For 100m, it looks like a far-sighted dream when his personal best of 9.83s and the Jamaican’s 9.58s are compared. The USA 4x100m relay squad does have the quality to break the world record but the chances don't seem as bright as that of 200m.
