Alica Schmidt admitted to not being happy with her training session after the camp she attended in South Africa. Schmidt was part of the German relay squad at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Schmidt, 26, who travelled at the 2020 Summer Olympics as a substitute for the mixed relay team, secured a spot in the main relay squad in Paris but failed to make it to the podium. Since then, she has invested time in rigorous training, hoping to run better races in the 2025 season.
In a recent story update, she posted a clip of her running on the 800m track, highlighting that her session didn't go as desired.
"So thankful for the support. Actually I'm not really happy how the session went but it's a progress."
In a post from November 2024, the German sprinter announced she would run the 800m in 2025. She further updated her social fans about joining a high-altitude training camp in South Africa, vying for the 2025 races.
"After Paris I tried something new and ran a 800m & 600m and really enjoyed pushing out of my comfort zone. Back in 2022, I decided that I wanted to give the 800m a shot after the Paris Olympics, so now it means… I’m going for it next year..
The 26-year-old added:
"I‘m on my way to my first high altitude training camp where I’ll join an international 800m group to train alongside great athletes where I can learn a lot."
On November 29, 2024, she took to her Instagram handle to announce that she almost concluded her time in South Africa, satisfied with her progression.
"First training camp of the season is almost completed it was a really good camp and made some good progression"

Schmidt became a regular in updating about her track progression on her social media handles. Recently, she shared a photo series of her late-night lactic session with her teammates, stating that it was 'one of the hardest ever.' Despite the difficulty, she expressed anticipation over another session the following week.
"Late night lactic sessions, actually today was one of the hardest workouts ever, I couldn’t manage to stand up for 30min but that‘s part of the game and I can’t wait for the next one on Saturday," the caption read.
Alica Schmidt was a member of the German 4x100m relay squad that clinched silver at the 2017 European Athletics U20 Championships. Her repertoire also includes a bronze in the same at the 2019 European Athletics U23 Championships.
