Serena Williams' husband Alexis Ohanian emphasized his unwavering commitment to women's sports, ahead of his brainchild event, the Athlos NYC's debut edition. The electrifying showdown is slated for Thursday, 26 September 2024, at Icahn Stadium in New York City.

The female-only track event will feature 36 athletes, including Olympians Gabby Thomas, Masai Russell, Brittany Brown, and Faith Kipyegon with six athletes competing in each of six events for lucrative prize money.

Initially named the 776 Invitational, under the capital firm Seven Seven Six, led by Reddit cofounder Ohanian, the Athlos NYC will offer a total prize money of $1,10,500 for one single event, with the winner of the event seeking a staggering $60,000. The following-place finishers will bag $25,000, $10,000, $8,000, $5000, and $2,500, respectively.

On X, Front Office Sports highlighted Ohanian's commitment to elevating female athletes and providing them with greater opportunities for recognition and financial rewards. Aligning with this, Ohanian stated that he will continue to strive for improvement, noting that Athlos NYC is just the beginning of his commitment.

"I'm not retired because I will spend the rest of my life trying to keep building better, keep working with greatness, and keep doing things that might make folks uncomfortable," Ohanian wrote.
"Onward. This is just Phase I," he added.
