Lindsey Vonn shared her thoughts as she competed in her first race in nearly six years. The American Alpine skier came out of retirement at the FIS Fall Festival in Colorado and competed in two lower-level downhills. She expressed that there may be a lot of speculation over her performance; however, she considered this to be a great training and testing experience as she aimed to get into the competition groove as she geared up for the upcoming races.
Vonn initially bid adieu to the sport in February 2019 at the World Championships in Sweden, where she finished third in the downhill. However, the former World Cup champion was seen training in New Zealand earlier this year, which raised speculations among fans about her coming out of retirement. She surprised the skiing world in November when she announced that she would be coming out of retirement and joining the US Ski Team.
After her first professional race in nearly six years, Lindsey Vonn expressed how she used the race to get back into competition mode as well as build points to be able to compete in World Cup races.
"Today was a solid start and I had a blast being in start with my teammates again! While I’m sure people will speculate and say I’m not in top form because of the results, I disagree. This was training for me. I’m still testing equipment and getting back in the groove," she wrote.
"This is only the beginning and the way I’m skiing is more important than the times at this point. Now I have the fis points to race World Cup ✅ so that’s a successful day! Thanks to everyone who helped put on the races! Let’s do it again tomorrow! 🙌🏻💪🏻❤️," she added.
