Simone Biles recently opened up on the reason behind her profound commitment to her mental health journey. Biles' journey towards mental health came in the limelight after she withdrew from competing in the individual all-around final and the vault and uneven bars medal events at the Tokyo Games.
The legendary gymnast experienced "Twisties," leading her to pull out from the Games and focus on her mental health. Since the Tokyo Games, she has been outspoken about the importance of mental health and is unreserved in discussing her experience of therapy sessions.
Three years after the Tokyo Games and following her journey in mental health care, Biles emerged victorious at the Paris Olympics. In a recent interview with NESN, she reflected on her mental health journey, highlighting everyone's experience is different.
Moreover, Biles also highlighted the difference between recovering from physical injuries with set timelines and mental health recovery, which is an unpredictable and longer journey, remembering her frustration with not feeling healed even after six weeks.
"Everybody's mental Journey mental health journey is different and unique in their own ways and I think I got so caught up in it because in gymnastics if you do have an injury the doctor tells you six to eight weeks and you'll be fine or if you get surgery three to four months but with mental health that wasn't the case so I'm thinking. 'it's been six weeks why am I not healed yet, like I've been taking medicine, I've tried so many things,' but I honestly believe I'll be on this mental health Journey for the rest of my life and I'm so grateful again that I have these resources to be able to use use and apply now," Biles said.
