Mikaela Shiffrin's fiancé and two-time Olympic medalist Aleksander Kilde shared a major update regarding his season amid complications with his shoulder. This comes ten months after his crash in Wengen.
Following this devastating fall, Kilde had to stay away from skiing and was also hospitalized. The Akershus native's health got better after his hospitalization and he had also resumed his skiing training sessions.
However, his shoulder faced more discomfort in July, and owing to this, he underwent surgeries on his shoulder. But due to further complications, Kilde will need another shoulder surgery owing to which, he will also miss the rest of the 2024-25 season.
In an Instagram video posted by Kilde, he elaborately explained his medical condition. He also thanked his fans for the support they have shown him since his crash in January.
"After being on antibiotics for another six weeks, it seems it's going in the right direction but the issue here is that the infection was so aggressive and was there in my shoulder for a long time, so it was eating on my bone. So two of the muscles is still not attached at this moment, which means I need to do another surgery and reconstruct everything."
"That said, there's not going to be any racing this season. I wanna thank you guys for all the amazing support throughout the whole journey," Aleksander Kilde said in the video.
In his video, Kilde also stated that he will have to spend around four months in rehabilitation and added that he will also be attending a few skiing meets in the season.
Kilde's absence from the 2024-25 season means that he will miss the FIS World Cup 2024-25. He has a strong record in the World Cups with 21 wins to his name, including 12 Downhill and 9 Super Giant Slalom victories.
