Tara Davis-Woodhall recently opened up about how she tackles her mental health on bad days as she looks forward to competing in the US Olympic Track and Field Trials. She will square off at the trials in the women's long jump qualification round on June 27.
The long-jump athlete has had a remarkable 2024 season so far. She opened her outdoor season with a world lead of 7.16m in her pet event at the Arkansas Twilight, held at John McDonnell Field in Fayetteville, on May 3. However, she revealed she wasn't mentally well just one month before the competition.
Davis-Woodhall has never stepped back from speaking up about mental health issues, and she has done the same in a recent interview with World Athletics. She revealed that she loves showcasing the fact that she is "not okay all the time" and opened up about the ways that help her recharge on bad mental health days.
"I love showing that I am not okay all the time," Tara Davis-Woodhall said. "You know, I enjoy doing that because I knew there's someone out there that can relate. I don't know, just a mentally tough day and you just don't want to see yourself in that light."
She added:
"When I think about home, literally what I think about. I think about my dog, I think about the privacy and the comfort I have. I feel like I'm a homebody more than people probably realize. I am an extrovert, but I love, love being at home. It's just like my sanctuary with all my plants and my children running around. I have peace here, I just think of my home as my safe space."
Tara Davis-Woodhall opens up about her bond with husband Hunter Woodhall
In the aforementioned interview, Tara Davis-Woodhall also opened up about her relationship with her husband, Hunter. She stated that he has played a very important role in her track and field career, and she's lucky to be with someone in the same sport.
"I honestly don't think I would be in this sport the way I'm in this sport if it wasn't for him. Every day it's a grind and I am lucky enough to have someone who's also in the same sport, in the same mindset and life. I definitely would say Hunter is my inspiration," Davis-Woodhall said.
The 25-year-old recently faced some health adversities that she shared on her social media. She had developed a slight Achilles injury and a severe allergic reaction to some ingredients in her protein drink. However, Tara Davis-Woodhall recovered in a span of a few days and is now poised to compete at the US Olympic Track and Field trials.
