American Paralympic champion Hunter Woodhall once admitted that he felt deceived when he mistakenly thought that his now-wife Tara Davis-Woodhall was dating her best friend at the time. The duo got married in 2022 after dating for five years.
Both Tara and Hunter had memorable runs at the Paris Summer Games this year, where the former became an Olympic champion for the first time after winning her long jump finals with a leap of 7.10 m. Her victory was celebrated with a heartfelt embrace from her husband, who was present at Stade de France to cheer her on.
Following that, it was Woodhall's turn at the Paralympic event in September, where he also became a Paralympic champion for the first time after winning the men's 400m T62 event with a time of 46.36 seconds. He then went on to earn a bronze medal in the mixed 4x100m universal relay, marking his second medal at the games. He received an embrace from his wife after winning the gold medal.
The couple has had each other's back ever since they began dating in June 2017. They first met at a high school track meet in Pocatello, Idaho, in February of the same year. They eventually got married in October 2022, in McKinney, Texas, after five years of being together. However, in the "The Story of How We Met!" video on their YouTube channel from 2018, Woodhall said that he felt played when he mistakenly thought Tara Davis-Woodhall was dating his best friend, Christian.
"At the time one of my best friends was there; he came to my track meet, and I think Hunter thought that like we were dating and we weren't," Tara said.
"I most definitely thought they were dating, and I was like, dang I got played cuz we have been talking like all the time, like every day, and I was like, dang. Christian, if you're watching this shout out to you, bro," Hunter said. [5:48 onwards]
