The Paris Olympics are fast approaching with the gymnastics action set to take place from July 27 to August 5. As the preparations ramp up, the venue to be used for the event has been making rounds on social media and has elicited mixed reactions from fans.
The Bercy Arena will host Olympics basketball, gymnastics events, and Paralympic wheelchair basketball events over the coming weeks.
The arena is one of the most iconic and was built in 1984, making it one of the oldest structures to host the 2024 Paris Olympics. However, fans were eager to see how the gymnastics arena would look like after the purple track at the Stade de France was unveiled for track events at the Paris Olympics.
An X user shared the photos of the arena on Wednesday and fans are divided over the color and size of the venue for the Paris Olympics. The venue has a mix of blue and pink but some fans are unimpressed with the color, and would have preferred if more purple was used.
However, others have expressed satisfaction, noting that the venue might look basic, but it is definitely unique and it looks good for hosting the Paris Olympics.
"I THOUGHT IT WAS GOING TO BE PURPLE THIS IS AN EYE SORE OMG," one fan replied to the post.
"I respectfully disagree. The arena is beautiful, it gives ocean vibes," another fan added.
"The Olympics but make it cheer extreme 💀," a fan chimed in.
Here are more reactions from fans concerning the gymnastics venue for the Paris Games.
"I’m obsessed, possibly the best-looking gymnastics arena in Olympics history," another fan commented.
"Idk (I don't know) I kinda love it basic but love it," another fan said.
Simone Biles shares main motivation as she heads to Paris Olympics 2024
Simone Biles will be making her fourth Olympic appearance at the Paris Games 2024, and has shared the main motivation behind heading to the French capital.
Biles noted that she will be out to prove to herself that she can still do it when she steps into the arena at the Paris Olympics. The four-time Olympic champion insisted that it is never about the medals but she wants to have fun, look back, and be proud of herself.
"I would say the only thing I have to prove is to myself that I can get out there and do it again. As long as I was having fun and doing what I love, then that’s all that you can do, because I don’t want to look back 50 years from now and be like, 'Wow, she was good, but she was so miserable,'" Biles told Today.
"And I think a couple times I might have thought that, but now I’m just like, 'Wow, look at her go. She’s having so much fun. She’s loving what she’s doing, who she’s doing it with.' So really, just embracing that moment," she added.
Biles will hope to bounce back at the Paris Games after her disappointing showing at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
At the 2016 Rio Olympics, Biles claimed a clean sweep, winning the all-around, vault, floor exercise, and the team title. In Tokyo, she won a bronze on balance beam as the U.S. team won a silver medal. She heads to the Paris Olympics with her fingers crossed to reclaim her titles.
