"I tried to end relationship before he could break my heart" - When Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone recalled wanting to part ways with husband Andre Levrone

Paris Olympics gold medalist Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone tied the knot with former NFL player Andre Levrone Jr. at Early Mountain Vineyards in Madison, Virginia, on May 5, 2022. The couple announced their engagement at the Four Seasons Resort, Scottsdale on August 25, 2021.

The couple made their relationship public in 2020 after dating for a brief period. The NFL player was the first to initiate a conversation on Instagram. Following McLaughlin-Levrone's successful streak at the Tokyo Games, securing two gold medals, Levrone popped the question.

In her autobiography Far Beyond Gold: Running from Fear to Faith, published on January 30, 2024, McLaughlin-Levrone reflected on the times when she wanted to part ways with the former NFL player.

In one of the excerpts from the book, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone recounted trying to end her relationship with Andre to avoid heartbreak. Despite her attempts to push him away, Andre's unwavering commitment and encouragement reassured her that he wanted to be with her and help her grow.

"Several times before I saw Andre again, I tried to end the relationship before he could break my heart. I would send him texts like, “You don’t want to be in a relationship with me. It’s a mess over here.” Andre would hear none of it. “Do you like me?” he’d ask. “Of course,” I’d say. “Well, I like you. So let’s not live out of fear of what might happen.” It became evident: Andre wanted to be in this relationship. He had a desire to help me grow in whatever way he could. He was not going anywhere."

"Everything is ruined" - Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone reflects on her wedding day when it started pouring

In an interview with The College Sports Company in 2023, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone recalled her wedding day, which was marred by heavy rain and tornado warnings.

However, her husband reassured her, emphasizing their marriage rather than the day itself. She also recalled the indoor ceremony turning out to be beautiful and intimate.

"It was pouring, there was a tornado warning outside," she recollected. "He was great, I've always been like my wedding day is gonna be the dream day of my life kind of girl and so we were supposed to have the ceremony outside, the reception inside, and then a week before I found out it was going to be pouring and I was like distraught and I was like, 'Andre it's ruined, everything is ruined," and he was like 'Sydney it's not about the day it's about the marriage,' and I'm like I hear you but like rain, but like honestly it ended up being so beautiful and intimate inside."
