Kenny Bednarek put forward an incredible performance to defeat Letsile Tebogo to win the title at the Brussels Diamond League Finals in the men's 200m. The American athlete ended Tebogo's unbeaten streak from the Paris Olympics to end his season with a victory.
Letsile Tebogo made back-to-back appearances in all Diamond League events after the Paris Olympics and emerged victorious, asserting his dominance on the track circuit in both the 100m and the 200m. As all the athletes made their final track appearance of 2024 in Brussels, Bednarek held on to the final stretch to win and snatch the victory from Tebogo by 13 hundredths of a second.
Kenny Bednarek clocked 19.67s to win the title and Tebogo finished second with a performance of 19.80s. The American athlete spoke about his performance in a post-race interview and weighed in on persevering throughout the 2024 season to live up to his expectations.
"You know, I’m just trying to live up to my expectations. I mean, I’ve always had the talent to run these fast times in my sleep. So, just to finally be able to hit some of these times that I know I’m capable of, it means a lot and I can go off next year running faster than this and I’m just scratching the surface right now and these races are feeling easier and I am pretty faster," he said.

Kenny Bednarek won the silver medal in the men's 200m and took to X to reflect on his performance as well as set ambitions for the upcoming seasons. He won the second silver medal of his career in Paris and revealed that the performance has imbibed a sense of hunger in him for the next edition of the Olympic games.
“2x Olympian and 2x Silver Medalist. Representing my country and Team USA is an honor I’ll never take lightly. Competing in three events this year has taught me so much, and it’s only fueled my hunger for more. LA 2028 is in my sights and I’m aiming for one thing: 3 gold medals," he wrote.
"I’m filled with gratitude for this incredible journey. Walking onto the track and hearing the crowd roar my name every single time is a feeling I’ll never forget. The support I’ve received this year, whether in person, online or back home has been overwhelming in the best way possible," he added.
