In a major announcement, tennis legend Serena Williams' husband Alexis Ohanian confirmed that Masai Russell would be competing in the second edition of the Athlos NYC slated in 2025. Ohanian, co-founder of Reddit made the announcement days after the successful debut edition of the event.
The Athlos NYC official social media profile gave a special feature to Russell after she enjoyed a successful run in the 2024 season, including at the first edition of the Athlos NYC, held at the Icahn Stadium. In New York City, the Olympic champion clocked a stunning time of 12.44 seconds to finish in third place in the 100m hurdles event.
Following this, the event made a special video feature, where the Paris Olympics gold medalist, who is currently embracing her off-season, asserted her readiness for the next athletic calendar.
"I'll be in attendance for Athlos again, again, again and again," Russell said. "The biggest thing I'm focusing on during this off-season is to really just get my mind back in alignment so I can have a fresh start and just propel for the season."
Following this, Ohanian marked his attendance in the comment section and expressed his excitement for Russells return to the event,
"Ready to have you back for PHASE II."
He further reshared the video and confirmed the 24-year-old's participation in the 2025 edition.
"I've got your invitation to ATHLOS 2025 printed and hand-signed!! @masai_russell."

Alexis Ohanian recently weighed in on an even more expanded version of the Athlos NYC in 2025.
During the ESPN WSummit, Masai Russell reflected on the first edition of the Athlos NYC and praised Ohainan's determination to grow women's sports.
"He has seen something in the track space, especially for women, and the disparity in our sport, and he gave 36 women, six women in each event the opportunity to compete for $60,000, and it was just an amazing experience," Russell said.
Ohanian acknowledged the Paris Olympics gold medalist's overwhelming response and indicated that the upcoming edition will be even larger and more impressive.
"Don't worry @masai_russell, that's just the beginning -- y'all proved that ATHLOS needs to be even BIGGER in 2025."
The Athlos NYC event earned silver status accreditation by World Athletics.
