Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone has expressed excitement for waffles and chocolate as she heads to the city popular for such things, Brussels, for the Diamond League Finals. The four-time Olympic gold medalist is scheduled to race in the 200m and 400m Invitational events on September 13 and 14.

McLaughlin-Levrone continued to break records in the 2024 season, running the third-fastest time in American history over the 400m at the start of the season. The 25-year-old lowered her world record to 50.65s in the 400m hurdles at the Olympic Trials in June before shattering it a month later in Paris.

She ran a blistering 50.37s in the Olympic final while the silver medalist Anna Cockrell came home with a personal best time of 51.87s. Femke Bol, who was tipped to be a threat to the American’s dominance, was nearly two seconds slower, setting for bronze in 52.15s.

The four-time Olympic gold medalist celebrated her success with her husband Andre Levrone during a trip to Greece and is now scheduled to run in the 200m and 400m Invitational races at the Brussels Diamond League. Ahead of the competition, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone shared her excitement in a video message on Instagram.

“Hi guys, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone here. I'm super excited to get to race this weekend in the Brussels meet. Super excited to put on a show and enjoy this opportunity, eat some good waffles and chocolate. And hopefully I can run fast for you guys,” she said.

She also stated (via Olympics.com):

"I am really looking forward to giving my best here on Friday and Saturday, and end my season in beauty. And of course I’ve also heard about Belgian delicacies like waffles and chocolate. I definitely want to taste those! But I am going to wait with that until after my races,” McLaughlin-Levrone shared ahead of the event.”

The world record holder has raced once each in the 200m and the 400m events this year, posting times of 22.07s (personal best) and 48.75s (third fastest in American history). Given that she recorded those times early in the season, McLaughlin-Levrone could come out with new personal bests in Brussels.
