Suni Lee responds to a fan revealing that she fell from the uneven bars at the US Olympic Trials

Suni Lee was impeccable at the U.S Olympic Trials, securing her berth to her second consecutive Games. However, while the 21-year-old was flawless in her routines, a fan revealed that she actually suffered a big fall during her warmup, with the American responding that she actually had a funny video of the incident.

Lee came into the Trials after an impressive performance at the U.S National Championships. At the Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas the 2020 Olympic all-around champion finished with a silver on the beam and fourth on the uneven bars, her two best events.

At the Trials, the former Auburn University Tiger only improved her showing on the bars, winning gold in the event with a 29.275. Her routine was complete with her full-twisting Jaegar.

However, a fan revealed that Lee actually fell on her Jaegar release move less than a minute before she was due to compete it, writing on X,

“Literally seconds before Suni Lee had to mount bars to perform this routine she fell on her Jaegar release move. And she fell HARD. The whole arena gasped. As a fan of Suni, I was so scared for her. She not only survived the real routine, but she THRIVED.”

Lee responded to the revelation with one of her own, writing that she actually had a hilarious video of the fall.

“Hahaha i have a video of my warm up and it’s sooo funny 😂😂.”

Suni Lee targeting her first eponymous skill with the full-twisting Jaegar

In January 2024, Suni Lee stunned fans when she posted a video of her practicing the full-twisting Jaegar, a move that has not yet been performed on the international stage by any other gymnast.

Now, if Lee were to successfully compete the Jaeger at the Paris Olympics, the move would be renamed after her, giving the Olympic champion her first eponymous skill.

Earlier this year, the 21-year-old actually had a chance to get the skill named after herself. She was supposed to perform the move at the Winter Cup, an event which chose the gymnasts that would head to the FIG World Cup in March.

Had Lee been named to the team for the World Cup, she would have had an opportunity to perform the Jaeger on the international stage and get it named after her.

Her coach Jess Graba had revealed that the whole reason they participated in the Winter Cup was with the intention of Lee getting her first eponymous skill, telling Olympics.com:

“The whole reason we’re doing Winter Cup is so that we can go to Baku and get the skill named because Suni really wants to get that out of the way. Get it out of the way, so it’s not a question mark going into the spring.”

However, the American struggled at the competition, falling off the bar and failing to make the team. Suni Lee will now get a chance to perform her skill at the highest level, and success at the Paris Olympics would result in the Olympian acquiring her first eponymous move.
