Pole vaulter and world record holder Mondo Duplantis recently defined his goals for the 2024 Paris Diamond League, scheduled for Sunday, June 7. The eighth leg of the Wanda Diamond League will be the final event for Duplantis before making his appearance at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Duplantis will be eyeing yet another strong show in the 2024 Diamond League series, having won in Xiamen (6.24m - World record), Shanghai/ Suzhou (6.00m), and Stockholm (6.00m).
A day before the event at the Paris Diamond League, Mondo Duplantis talked about his goals for the competition with only a few days left until the Olympics. In a press conference held by the Diamond League organizers, he stated:
“I hope to jump high tomorrow. I want to show myself that I am in world record form going into the Olympics, and this is my last competition before the Olympics. So, I definitely want to make sure that everything is where I want it to be, try to gather as much information as I possibly can, because I want everything to be as perfect as it can be going to the Olympics."
He expressed his anticipation for the event, adding:
“So I guess, very excited about tomorrow. I'm going to be taking it as 110%, I guess like I always do, and as far as heights, I guess we'll just have to see, take whatever the day gives me, try to jump as high as I can, try to put something good out there, and I guess show myself that I am in that type of form, world record-wise.”
Duplantis will be heading to his second Olympic Games in Paris, having captured the gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics with a clearance of 6.02m. He will enter the Paris Olympics as the pre-race favorite owing to his exploits in the sport.
