Aly Raisman revealed that Jordyn Wieber was her best roommate in the 2012 London Olympics and Madison Kocian in the 2016 Rio Olympics. Raisman was part of the 'Fierce Five' and 'Final Five' Olympic women's gymnastics teams, which won the coveted gold medals in 2012 and 2016, respectively.
At the 2012 London Olympics, Aly Raisman captained the women's gymnastics team and delivered the gold medal. She also won the individual gold on the floor exercise and bronze on the balance beam, which earned her the title of the most decorated gymnast at the London Olympics. Her impressive performances at the 2016 Rio Olympics tied her with Gabby Douglas as the only gymnasts to win back-to-back team golds.
Raisman holds the position of the third-most successful US gymnast behind Shannon Miller and Simone Biles. Years after retirement, Raisman still cherishes a great bond with both her London and Rio Olympic 'roomies', Jordyn Wieber and Madison Kocian, who stayed with her at the Olympic Village.
In a recent Instagram post, the three-time Olympic gold medalist shared a picture with her former roommates at another 2012 London Olympian, Kyla Ross' wedding. In the caption, Raisman shared that she often reminisces about the beautiful memories made with Wieber and Kocian.
"The best roomies @jordyn_wieber was 2012 & @madison_kocian 2016 so many incredible memories I will forever cherish"
Jordyn Wieber was part of the gold-winning women's team, self-dubbed 'The Fierce Five', at the 2012 London Olympics. Madison Kocian won team gold and uneven bars silver at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
Aly Raisman announced her retirement earlier in 2020, therefore ending her Tokyo Olympic bid that year. However, her contribution as a gymnast and activist continues to resonate.
Aly Raisman on her Olympic strategies - "I kind of relied on autopilot and just kind of trusted my training"
The six-time Olympic medalist shared that the best strategy, in her opinion, for competing at the Olympics is to treat it it like a normal day of practice. Having captained two gold-winning teams at the Olympics, Aly Raisman shared some tips as a veteran gymnast.
"Even though it’s going to be the biggest stage of their life, the irony is they just have to treat it like a normal day of practice. When I was so nervous at those points at the Olympics, I kind of relied on autopilot and just kind of trusted my training," she shared (via Olympics.com).
Aly Raisman further added that she didn't let the significance of the Olympics get to her head, as the marquee Games are enjoyable but very intimidating at the same time.
