Sha'Carri Richardson expressed her gratitude to the Dallas Independent School District Board of Trustees, for their decision to rename John Kincaide Stadium in honor of the Olympic silver medalist. A Dallas Carter alumnus, Richardson was present at her home football game against Wilmer-Hutchins when a new sign bearing her name was unveiled.

Richardson recently won the 100m silver in 10.87s at the 2024 Paris Olympics and also anchored the gold-medal-winning women's 4x100m relay for Team USA. Following her Olympic success, she finished eighth in the 100m behind Olympic champion Julien Alfred at the Diamond League finals in Brussels.

Following her 2024 season, Richardson returned to her hometown of Dallas and received a hero's welcome at her alma mater, Dallas ISD's Dallas Carter, on September 20, 2024. The Dallas Independent School District Board of Trustees voted to rename Kincaide Stadium "Sha'Carri Richardson Track" in honor of the Olympic medalist.

Amid Carter's football game against Wilmer-Hutchins, the 24-year-old athlete was handed over the new signage bearing her name. She addressed the crowd, expressing gratitude for the honor, and credited her roots for her global success.

"I ran on this track. I can say I started my career on this track. So, for it to be named after me now, it’s an honor. But it shows that I have a responsibility to Dallas. Where I come from continues to support me no matter how far I go. And I will never, ever, ever let people forget where I come from," she said.

She added:

"That’s Dallas and that’s where I get my heart. That’s where I get my mindset and that’s just where I get my joy from as well. I’m gonna continue to represent very well. As long as you guys continue to show me the love that y’all have been showing me no matter what."

Sha'Carri Richardson won the 100m and 4x100m relay titles at the 2023 World Championships. After her success, she received a Facetime call from her high school track coach, Lauren Cross, who had nothing but words of praise for her former tutee.

"We’re so proud of you! When we saw you in the holding area I was like ‘They don’t know Sha’Carri. It’s about to be over in the finals," Cross said as the 100m Olympic silver medalist listened on the other end of the call. (via NBC Dallas, August 2023)

Richardson had won the 100m title at the AAU Junior Olympics while a student at Dallas Carter and also claimed the 4x100m relay gold medal at the 2017 U20 Pan American Athletics Championships.
