Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone has said she starts her day by reading the Bible before doing other chores. She is one of the greatest 400m hurdlers in history and largely credits her success to Jesus Christ.
McLaughlin-Levrone continued her dominance in 2024, lowering her world record twice while adding two Olympic gold medals to her tally. She ran 50.65s at the Trials before going faster in 50.37s to win the gold in Paris. She also won gold in the women's 4x400m relay, running one of the fastest splits in history in 47.71s.
The New Jersey native closed her season at the Brussels Diamond League, winning the 200m and 400m Invitationals set up specifically for her. Speaking with Well and Good Magazine in an interview, she shared her morning routine, saying she starts her day with a glass of cold lemon water before reading her Bible.
“On a normal training day, I wake up around 7:30 a.m. I can wake up right before my alarm clock, my body always knows. So it’s usually around 7:25. The first thing I always do is drink a glass of lemon water,” Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone said
“I will read my Bible, whether that’s on the Bible app or sitting down reading it, depending on how much time I have. I read anywhere between 10 to 15 minutes. And then I’ll start to get ready for the day.”
The 25-year-old added she loves superfoods such as oatmeal in her breakfast and despite being a sprinter, she prefers middle-distance running shoes for practice.
Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone considers "faith" her everything
Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone was baptized in November 2020 and is undefeated in the 400m hurdles since, setting the world record six times in the event. She told Olympics.com after winning the gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics:
“I'm just grateful for my faith, and to God for guiding me through all of that and finding my identity in him and not in myself or in my performance. I think that's given me so much freedom to just run the race. He's called me to it.
And I think that this is testimony of just how much growth has taken place in me, not by my own strength, but by Him. For me, it's not an everyday lifestyle. I would say it's just my life. My faith is everything. It's who I am.”
The four-time Olympic champion has signed with Grand Slam Track for the 2025 season and will run the 400m hurdles and 400m sprint regularly throughout the season. It will also be the first time she will focus on both events simultaneously.
