Tobi Amusan was disqualified after false start at Shanghai Diamond League 2024

Fans reacted to Tobi Amusan being disqualified at the Shanghai Diamond League 2024 after dramatic action unfolded in the women's 100m hurdles.

The defending world champion made a false start to the race resulting in it being restarted. But not before she ran to the referees to protest her disqualification. Tobi Amusan demanded that she be allowed to run the race under protest. After careful consideration from the judging panel, the Nigerian was allowed to run the 100m hurdles event.

However, the race was delayed yet again due to huge noise in the stadium in Shanghai. When the event finally kicked off, Amusan started off the blocks quickly and clocked the fastest timing in the stacked field. She ran the 100m hurdles event in 12.60 seconds but wasn't handed the win due to her disqualification at the start.

Olympic champion Jasmine Comacho-Quinn clocked 12.63s to win the event while Devynne Charlton finished 2nd in 12.64s. The third place was secured by reigning world champion Danielle Williams.

Fans online reacted to the women's 100m hurdles drama, with some of them even siding with Tobi Amusan and calling for changes in the disqualification rules on false starts. A fan wrote on X:

"I wish they would change that rule from 1 false start to 2."
“That was not a false start”, another fan claimed.
“So unfair of them to DQ her as she won”, a user argued.

Several other fans expressed delight and amazement at the same time over the stacked field in women's 100m hurdles at Shanghai Diamond League 2024.

"The women 100mh always come prepared and fearless", a fan claimed.
"Great race!! Exactly what the track and field needs more of", wrote another fan,
"A race with restarts, and a photo finish in women's 100mH. Jasmine Camacho-Quinn won race, it could have been anybody's race, with a disqualification and Devynne Charlton hanging on while Tobi Amusan knows the quality in the event, brilliant ladies to Williams & Tapper", a user commented.
