One of the best athletes of this generation, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone is highly selective about her competitive appearances. After ending her season recently, the American revealed her plans to compete internationally in 2025.

McLaughlin-Levrone often chooses only domestic competitions. In 2024, she ran in only two international events — the Paris Olympics and the Brussels Diamond League invitational races. The world record holder remained undefeated in both of her outings on foreign soil, prompting fans to wonder whether they'd see more of her in global competitions next year.

Speaking to the media after her win in the 200m invitational race at the Brussels Diamond League, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone clarified her plans to compete internationally next season. The 25-year-old said her priority remained the Trials and Championships, but would compete in Europe if her schedule allowed her.

“I think if our schedule allows for it, I think we sit down strategically and assess what it is we're trying to accomplish and the best way to get there. So I think if some of these European meets make sense, fitting into that schedule, then absolutely. But the number one priority is always Trials and then the Championships and then from there we come to meets like this," she said (via CITIUS Mag's YouTube channel). (2:05)

Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone was scheduled to run the Brussels Diamond League Final in both the 200m and 400m. However, her wildcard for the event was rescinded as she didn't meet the criteria of having competed in at least one Diamond League event prior to the Brussels finals.

The event organizers then scheduled two special invitational races to allow the American to end her season in Belgium.

With fans excited to see McLaughlin-Levrone back in action once again in 2024, the hurdler lived up to the hype, winning both her races. In the 400m, she clocked a time of 49.11s, finishing ahead of Jamaica's Stacey Ann Williams, who ran in 50.53s. A day later, the Olympic champion impressed in the 200m as well, stopping the clock at 22.40s for the win.

While Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone wasn't too impressed with her times in either race, her 400m performance was good enough to have won her the Diamond League title, while her 200m run would have placed her second in the main event.
