Jordan Chiles may have had a topsy-turvy ride at the Paris Olympics, but she doesn't wish to focus on just the controversies. In a recent interview, she recounted the impact of her journey to Paris, as well as some of the funny moments she spent with fellow teammate and Olympic legend, Simone Biles.
In an interview with the YouTube channel 'Chicks in the Office', Jordan Chiles narrated some of the funniest moments she spent at the Paris Olympics alongside Simone Biles.
To quote an excerpt,
"I feel the funny memories I have is with Simone [Biles], coz there'll be times when I'd be just laying in my bed right .... So I was just, I'd be laying in my bed, by myself like, perfectly fine, on my phone, I'd get a text from Simone, and it'll be like some Tiktok, right? And I'm laughing..... If I don't respond, it'll be like, it's just like, Are you right next to me? So I'm laughing, I swear five minutes later, she'd walk in my room and be like, 'Did you see my TikTok?' I'm like man, YES I DID!"
Simone Biles cheered for all of her teammates during the Paris Olympics, and she saw to it that none of her teammates were left unattended. When Jordan Chiles was revoked of her bronze medal in the floor exercise event, Biles backed her through thick and thin.
Jordan Chiles' performance at the Paris Olympics
Jordan Chiles was the only one, apart from Simone Biles, who performed all the exercises in the team all around event finals. Her highest score came in the vault segment of the team all around event, where she scored 14.400. Her overall score of 55.465 contributed to the USA's overall score of 171.296, which was more than enough for an Olympic gold medal, since Italy's overall score was way less, at 165.494.
However, this was the only medal that Jordan Chiles clinched at the Paris Olympics. Jordan Chiles had also qualified for the finals of the individual all around event, the individual vault event, and the floor exercise event. However, she only took part in the floor exercise event, since Suni Lee and Jade Carey were preferred over her in the individual all around finals and the vault finals respectively.
The floor exercise event was far from a cakewalk. Initially ranked fifth, Chiles' score was upgraded from 13.666 to 13.766 after an appeal made by coach Cecile Landi. The original bronze medalist, Ana Barbosu of Romania, was relegated to the fourth position, and Jordan Chiles received the bronze instead. However, following an uproar by the Romanian authorities, the Court of Arbitration for Sport intervened and revoked the bronze medal awarded to Chiles, and the original scores were reinstated.
