Flavor Flav has promised a golden necklace for American gymnast Jordan Chiles after the International Olympic Committee (IOC) directed her to return the bronze medal she was awarded at the Paris Olympics 2024. Chiles had placed fifth initially but her score was adjudged to the bronze medal position following a review, which has now been nullified by CAS.
The Olympic gymnast was awarded a score of 13.666 for her floor routine during the event finals at Paris Olympics which placed her fifth. Romania’s Ana Barbuso was third for the bronze medal with a score of 13.700. However, Chiles’ coach Cecile Landi submitted an appeal to the judges, asking for a review of the gymnast’s score. It was approved and the American’s score changed to 13.766, placing her in third position.
Days after the finals, Romania Gymnastics Federation filled an appeal against the decision in CAS, arguing that Landi asked for a review after the one minute mark. The court upheld the appeal, ruling that the American coach had filed the appeal four seconds late, and it was Barbuso who was awarded the bronze medal.
Following the CAS decision, Jordan Chiles announced a break from social media. The IOC released a statement that they had directed the U.S. Olympic Committee to return Chiles’ bronze medal, which is set to be awarded to Ana Barbuso in a reallocation ceremony.
Following the IOC's statement, award-winning rapper Flavor Flav, who was regularly spotted by Team USA in Paris, announced his support for Chiles. He claimed that he would give the gymnast a ‘bronze clock necklace’.
“Ayyy YOOOO @ChilesJordan ,,, imma make you a BRONZE CLOCK NECKLACE,,, and that’s something NO ONE else has,!!! Hit me up my girl,,, I gotchu,!!!,” he wrote.
The U.S. Olympic Committee have now announced that they are filing an appeal against the decision in CAS, arguing that the organization wasn't given more time to defend during Romania’s appeal.
Jordan Chiles received support from LeBron James
Although Jordan Chiles has distanced herself from social media, the gymnast has received support from teammates and fellow American Olympians. Following IOC's statement, NBA star LeBron James extended his support to the Olympic champion as well.
Chiles' teammates such as Simone Biles and Suni Lee have shared their support for the Olympic medalist. The UCLA gymnast also won a gold medal with Team USA at the Paris Olympics in addition to the now-stripped bronze medal.
