Allyson Felix rang in the holiday season with her family with only two days left for Christmas. Since drawing a line to her storied career in 2022, Felix has regularly shared updates about her family, especially her children Camryn and Trey.
Allyson Felix and her husband Kenneth Ferguson welcomed their firstborn daughter, Camryn, in 2018 and their son, Andrew, in April 2024. Now six and eight months old, Camryn and Trey often become the highlight of Felix's social media posts, be it on Halloween or fun day outings.
On December 22, 2024, the most decorated female track and field athlete took to her Instagram handle to post a photo series of pre-Christmas rituals. The first slide had the family of four dressed in shades of green and blue, followed by the kids seated on Santa's lap and a message from the elf on the shelf doll with a commode filled with cereals.
"Hi Cammy! I made you cereal out of the biggest bowl I could find!" the note from the doll read.
The 11-time Olympic medalist also posted pictures of her parents sharing frames with Trey, followed by Camryn singing in her school choir. Felix's post caption read:
"Holiday season mode: ON. Let the festivities begin!"
On December 20, 2024, Felix accompanied her daughter to her classroom to volunteer. In an Instagram story, she shared a snap of the mother-daughter pair and exuded joy in the caption, reading:
"After a long day at work, I got to volunteer at Cammy's class today."
She expressed her feelings about being a teacher for a day because she had dreamed of pursuing the profession when she was young.
"I always thought I was going to be a teacher. I love being in the classroom."
Felix amassed 20 World Championship medals in her career, becoming the most decorated male or female track and field athlete. Her resume also includes four Diamond League wins.
Allyson Felix once opened up about the legacy she would leave behind
Allyson Felix faced a difficult childbirth experience, having been diagnosed with preeclampsia when she went for a checkup on the 32nd week of her pregnancy. Camryn had to be delivered in an emergency C-section with her heart rate rapidly decreasing. After the setback, Felix became a strong maternal health advocate.
The 39-year-old also rallied against her former brand partner Nike when it cut down the pay for pregnant athletes. In a recent interview with Springhill, Allyson Felix shared that she wants people to remember her as someone who fought for women.
"I think fighting for women. Just, I think that's it. Like, I hope that people see what I've done and I've, I've wanted to make things better than when I came. And I think it boils down to that. Like, when I think about, you know, what I'll tell my daughter and what she sees, that's what I want her to think about, ‘like, it's not always about you. There's a bigger picture and you can be successful, but you can also help the next person up.’" (18:30 onwards)
Felix was added to BBC's 100 Women list in December 2024.
