Elaine Thompson-Herah refrained from defending her titles at the Paris Olympics after withdrawing from Trials citing an injury
Elaine Thompson-Herah refrained from competing in the Jamaican Track and Field National Trials this year after enduring an Achilles injury, preventing her from defending her titles at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
She competed at the New York Grand Prix before the Trials, where she sustained an Achilles tendon injury. Although she only opted out from the 200m event initially at the Trials, she later announced her decision to remain absent from the 100m lineup too. A “small tear” of the Achilles tendon was examined.
Though the Achilles tendon injury was aggravated at the New York Grand Prix, Thompson-Herah has been navigating the injury since the 2016 Rio Games. The Jamaican sprinter was successful in defending her title in the 100m and 200m at the 2020 Tokyo Games after having won her initial medals in Rio.
Following her glorious feats at the 2020 Games, she became the first woman to have won back-to-back sprinting doubles medals at the Olympic Games. Although the sprinter pulled out from competing in the recent Games, she still intends to continue her track career.
