Distance running legend Eliud Kipchoge is gearing up for what will be his fifth consecutive Olympic Games in Paris. While training for the marquee event, Kipchoge recently provided a sneak peek into his early morning run.

Kipchoge has achieved remarkable success in distance running. The Kenyan was the first man to record a sub-two-hour finish. His time of 1:59:40 in a 42.1 km marathon in Vienna is considered one of the most stunning finishes for that distance. However, it was not ratified as a world record by the IAAF (now World Athletics), as the race did not meet the criteria of an ideal open marathon.

Nonetheless, he is still officially the second-fastest marathon runner in the world, with a time of 2:01:09, just 34 seconds shy of his late compatriot Kelvin Kiptum's world record finish of 2:00:35 in Chicago last year.

Kipchoge has been named as one of the six athletes representing Kenya's marathon team at the Paris Olympics 2024. Joining him on the men's team will be Benson Kipruto and Alexander Munyao, with Timothy Kiplagat serving as an alternate at the French Games. Kipchoge has already started sweating it out for the big event in France, as evidenced by his recent Instagram post where he shared pictures from a morning run in rainy conditions.

"Morning miles with the team," he wrote in the caption

Eliud Kipchoge has participated in four Summer Games events and secured a podium finish in each of his participations. The 39-year-old Kenyan icon is the current two-time Olympic champion and wants to become the first marathon runner in history to win gold in three consecutive Olympics.

Ahead of his participation in the Paris Olympics, Kipchoge visited the Stade de France, which will be the venue for track and field events in the Paris Olympics. Interstingly, it was also the place where Kipchoge won his maiden senior medal at the 2003 World Championships.

Sharing a few pictures from his time at the stadium, the world champion wrote:

"A few weeks ago I visited Stade de France in Paris, the Olympic stadium for @paris2024. This stadium holds great memories for me since I won my first senior title here back in 2003. Paris is preparing for the Olympic Games, so am I. 85 days until the Olympic Marathon."

At the Paris Games, Kipchoge will be locking horns with his Ethiopian rival, Kenenisa Bekele, a three-time Olympic and five-time world champion, but who has never won the marathon at the quadrennial Games.
