American sprinting icon Gabby Thomas recently shared a fresh update from the final day of her Maldives vacation. Thomas is enjoying her time away from the track with her boyfriend, Spencer McManes.
The double Tokyo Olympic medalist, Thomas, participated in her second Summer Games this year in Paris, where she upgraded both her 200m bronze and women's 4x100m relay silver with gold. In addition, she added a third gold to her collection by registering a win in the women's 4x400m relay. The 27-year-old won the 200m final with a time of 21.83 seconds and won the 4x100m relay alongside Sha'Carri Richardson.
To wrap her Paris campaign on a high note, Thomas contributed to her team's historic eighth consecutive gold medal win in the 4x400m relay. The American quartet featuring Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, Alexis Holmes, and Shamier Little clocked a blistering 3:15.27 seconds to achieve the second-fastest time in history.
After completing her professional commitments for the 2024 season, Gabby Thomas is currently relishing some well-deserved downtime in the Maldives. She is accompanied by her boyfriend, Spencer McManes, and the couple has been staying at the picturesque Joali Being resort.
Throughout her stay, the sprinter has been sharing the updates of her vacation on her social media. As in the recent one where she posed by the beach wearing a sleek black bikini, accessorizing the look with a thin waist chain, headscarf, and sunglasses.
"Views at @joalibeing," she wrote in the caption.
When Gabby Thomas spoke about the importance of a break from her hectic schedule - "That trip really helped me"
In August, the Harvard graduate opened up with Pop Sugar about the time when she decided to study abroad, forfeiting the NCAA national championships and the USA championships. Gabby Thomas said taking that time for herself allowed her to rekindle her passion for the sport.
"We sacrifice a lot for track — whatever you love, you sacrifice a lot for it. And so I needed that [time] for me," she said. That trip really helped me with my track career at the end of the day, because I came back from it feeling very refreshed. I don't think it was a coincidence that literally [the] next season I ended up winning NCAAs and breaking the collegiate record."
Thomas also acknowledged that she required that time to re-evaluate her perspectives on life and what she really wanted from it.
