American sprinter Gabby Thomas made a remarkable comeback in the 200m race at the 2024 New York City Grand Prix after a disappointing sixth-place finish at the USATF Los Angeles Grand Prix. At the Icahn Stadium on June 9, 2024, Thomas clocked a brilliant 22.42s (-3.1 m/s), emerging as the winner in the 200m race at the NYC Grand Prix.

She finished ahead of her compatriots Tamara Clark and Jenna Prandini, who also breached the 23.00s barrier, clocking 22.79s and 22.96s respectively. This performance now places her among the top contenders to watch in the women’s 200m at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

After winning the 200m race, the two-time Olympic medalist uploaded pictures of herself from her participation at the 2024 NYC Grand Prix.

In addition to the 200m race, Gabby Thomas also ran the 100m race in which she came fourth at the NYC Grand Prix where she registered a time of 11.34s.

This is not the first time Thomas has appeared in two different races on a single day. Earlier this season, she participated in three events at the Texas Relays, including the 100m, 200m and 4x100m races.

Thomas then went on to compete at the World Athletics Relays in the Bahamas at the women’s 4x100m and 4x400m events which were just 20 minutes apart from one another. There, she played a crucial role in winning the gold medals in both events for the USA.

About two weeks after competing at the World Relays, Gabby Thomas was back in action at the USATF Los Angeles Grand Prix in the 100m and 200m events. However, Thomas appeared to be in completely different shape while running the 200m race at the event. She took to her X account after her loss at the tournament.

“Obviously didn’t look like myself today, it happens every season when I compete in the middle of this training block, but I committed to the meet long ago, and I just can’t pull out when fans look forward to seeing us compete. I’m okay, everything is going according to plan 🫶🏽💕”

The women’s 200m event at the USATF Los Angeles Grand Prix was won by Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone with a time of 22.07s. Abby Steiner and Brittany Brown finished second and third clocking 22.32s and 22.35s, respectively.
