Masai Russell, Alexis Holmes, Alaysha Johnson, and several other athletes have arrived in New York for the inaugural edition of the Athlos NYC, launched by Serena Williams’ husband Alexis Ohanian. The meet is slated for Thursday, September 26 at the Icahn Stadium, with the event officially commencing at 7 PM Eastern Time.
Russell had an unforgettable 2024 season after becoming the 100m hurdles Olympic champion with a time of 12.33s. She defeated a strong field comprising France’s Cyréna Samba-Mayela and the Tokyo Olympic champion, Jasmine Camacho-Quinn, who won the silver and bronze with 12.34s and 12.36s, respectively. Previously, Masai Russell had won the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials, clocking a 12.25s and booking her place in her first Olympic Games.
Just like Russell, Alexis Holmes delivered a brilliant performance in Paris where she contributed to the USA team’s gold medal victory in the women’s 4x400m relay event along with Shamier Little, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, and Gabby Thomas. As a result, the team won the gold in a new world-leading and American record time of 3:15.27.
Meanwhile, Alaysha Johnson had a decent Paris Olympics campaign where she advanced to the finals of the 100m hurdles, recording the fastest time among all runners in the semi-finals (12.34). However, Johnson couldn’t replicate her dominance in the finals as she finished seventh at 12.93.
Before the much-anticipated opening of Athlos NYC, several athletes have arrived for the event, gearing up for one final competition of the 2024 season. Masai Russell took to her Instagram story to share a glimpse of her touchdown in New York City. She was later spotted with Anavia Battle.
