Mondo Duplantis will be in action at the Shanghai/Suzhou Diamond League 2024 where he will have his eyes set on the world record for the ninth time.

At the Xiamen Diamond League, he established a new world record in the pole vault by clearing 6.24m. It is worth noting that none of his opponents could go past the 6.00m mark in the first meet of the series.

Duplantis has had a phenomenal 2024 season so far, bagging the World Athletics Indoor Championships gold medal for the second time in a row with a clearance of 6.05m.

Ahead of the second Diamond League meeting of the year, the 24-year-old spoke to the media about his feeling after breaking the world record for the eighth time, stating [Timestamp: 36:20]:

“It's been pretty chill. Nothing too much out of the ordinary. Mentally a little bit more on a cloud nine than just your average competition. Of course, being able to open up my outdoor campaign with the world record, that's always pretty nice. So, I know that I'm in really good shape.”

However, he also mentioned how the technique and form should be on the same level during competitions for such ideal outcomes, stating:

"But, you never know if the technique and everything is going to match up to the form that you're in. It definitely did in Xiamen, so I know that I can jump really high right now.

Duplantis also talked about his expectations for the Shanghai Diamond League, adding:

“Yeah, I'm expecting similar results in the sense to jump something really high tomorrow as long as conditions and everything is as good as I think it's going to be.”
