Reigning Olympic and World champion Noah Lyles recently tried his hands at golf during the Grant Holloway Athletics Foundation Golf Tournament. The competition was organized to raise funds for individuals in need during the upcoming holiday season.
In this year's professional pursuits, Lyles participated in his second Summer Games event in Paris and secured the first Olympic gold medal of his career.
He blazed through the Stade de France in August and secured a win in the 100m finals in a photo finish in a much-anticipated faceoff against the Jamaican prodigy Kishane Thompson. Both the runners recorded a time of 9.79 seconds, but the American phenom was awarded the gold; his torso crossed the finish line first, finishing just five-thousandths of a second faster than Thompson. The 27-year-old then went on to capture a bronze in the 200m as well.
After wrapping up his 2024 season, Lyles is currently relishing his downtime, where he recently participated in a golf tournament organized by his fellow American athlete and the current 110m hurdles Olympic champion Grant Holloway.
The event is intended to raise funds and provide support to the Bread of the Mighty Food Bank in Gainesville, Florida, and the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia, non-profit organizations that assist individuals with their basic necessities.
"Let’s get ready to make a difference in our community! The Grant Holloway Athletics Foundation Golf Tournament is back for its second year. Our goal is to provide much needed assistance to Bread of the Mighty Food Bank in Gainesville, Florida and Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia," Holloway wrote in an Instagram post about the golf tournament.
Katelyn Hutchison shared a story of Noah Lyles attending the tournament on her Instagram story, which the runner later reposted along with two additional stories from the event.
"Noah Lyles is the face of USA Track and Field" - Grant Holloway lauds his compatriot
In a May interview with LetsRunDotCom, Grant Holloway discussed Lyles, recognized him as the face of the American track and field, and dubbed him the fastest man in the world.
"Noah Lyles sells tickets, he has a story line, he is the fastest man in the world, he is the face of USA track and field, it's the truth. Everything I'm saying is not false about Noah," Holloway said (via LetsRunDotCom YouTube video). [1:50 onwards]
Holloway also noted that despite having nearly identical resumes, Lyles has managed to grab the spotlight by achieving feats that are unprecedented.
