Sha'Carri Richardson, Gabby Thomas, Christian Coleman and several other American sprinters were spotted undergoing relay practice ahead of the Paris Olympics 2024. With some of the fastest sprinters in the world in their lineup, Team USA will be among the favorites for gold in both women's and men's relay events.
Richardson won the 100m trials with a world-leading 10.71s at the U.S. Track and Field Olympic Team Trials. She was followed by training partners Twanisha Terry and Melissa Jefferson, and all three sprinters are set to be in the USA women's 4x100m relay team. Gabby Thomas, who won the 200m event, is expected to be part of the women's 4x100m and 4x400m relay events.
On the men's side, Noah Lyles matched his lifetime best of 10.83s to win the 100m title. Behind him were Kenny Bednarek and Fred Kerley for second and third respectively. Alongside the three, Christian Coleman, who finished fourth, will carry USA men's 4x100m relay gold medal hopes.
Team USA recently landed in Paris for the Olympic Games, and following a welcome experience at the Olympic Village, they went straight to the relay camp. Sha'Carri Richardson, Kenny Bednarek, Gabby Thomas, and Christian Coleman were among the top sprinters doing the warmups.
The athletes were also spotted doing the baton exchange practice with empty water bottles. While most of the relay participants were spotted at the practice, 100m world champion Noah Lyles was not. He is likely yet to arrive in Paris as Team USA hasn't shared any of his pictures in recent days.
Can Sha'Carri Richardson, Noah Lyles, and Gabby Thomas complete men's and women's 100m and 200m double?
The men's and women's 100m and 200m events at the Olympic Games have largely been dominated by Jamaican sprinters over the last decade. However, this year, the USA has one of the strongest sprinting squads.
Noah Lyles is the overwhelming favorite for the 200m gold and Sha'Carri Richardson is similarly the top contender for the women's 100m. However, on the men's 100m and women's 200m, it will be a tough battle.
Gabby Thomas has been the fastest woman over 200m this year, and her closest competitor will be Shericka Jackson, who hasn't been in the best form. However, the Jamaican is the second fastest of all time over 200m and could take Thomas by surprise.
For the men's 100m, Noah Lyles has increased his chances over the last week after running a new personal best in London. But he will face tough competition from the likes of Kishane Thompson and Oblique Seville in Paris.
