After a busy 2024 that saw her make her debut at the Olympics, Sha'Carri Richardson is making the most of her off-season before the upcoming season. Most recently, she attended the presentation ceremony of the Bowerman Award, which is collegiate track and field's highest honor.

The Bowerman Award was named after Bill Bowerman, a legendary track and field coach. Bowerman coached the Oregon team from 1949-72, leading the Ducks to four national team titles. He also trained 24 NCAA individual champs, 33 Olympians and 64 All-Americans, and the 1972 Olympic Team.

This NCAA season saw Parker Valby and Leo Neugebauer clinch the Bowerman Award, and the two athletes were honoured at the presentation ceremony held in Orlando. In attendance was none other than World and Olympic champion, Sha'Carri Richardson. The American later shared snaps of her time at the event on Instagram, showing off her stunning grey outfit. She captioned the post,

“5 year @thebowerman anniversary for me. Congratulations to this year's nominees and winners! An honor to be back in the Bowerman atmosphere.”

The two winners of this year's Bowermans Award, Parker Valby and Leo Neugebauer, had incredible seasons in the NCAA. Valby’s year saw her claim four national titles, while Neugebauer’ 2024 saw him win the indoor and outdoor NCAA heptathlon titles, as well as a silver at the Paris Olympics.

Sha'Carri Richardson is no stranger to the Bowerman Award, having won the honor herself in 2019. That year, she became the first freshman in the award’s 11-year history to be crowned the winner.

Richardson’s freshman season with LSU saw her clinch the 100m national title with a time of 10.75s. 2019 also saw the sprinter claim silver in the 200m and 4x400m national championships.

Speaking on winning the Bowerman, Richardson had said (as quoted by lsusports.net),

“I’m thankful for Coach (Dennis) Shaver, Coach Bennie (Brazell), and my girls back at LSU. I’m thankful for them because without them I don’t know how I would have made it through the season. Their love and support were a driving force for me to want to do better, to want to go faster, and to be greater for the legacy of LSU.”

Sha'Carri Richardson forgoed the rest of her collegiate eligibility after her first season with LSU. Since then, she has gone on to win the 100m World Championships, and two medals at the Paris Olympics, including a silver in the 100m and a gold in the 4x100m relay.
