Simone Biles and the USA gymnastics team have officially entered the Olympic Village for the Paris Olympics 2024. Along with the women's gymnastics team, the men's squad has also made its entry ahead of the grand event.
The USA gymnastics team landed in France on July 19 and conducted training sessions on the 20th, 21st, and 22nd, before heading to the Olympic Village. Alongside Biles, all the other four members of the team were spotted training regularly over the last couple of days.
The seven-time Olympic medalist was spotted practicing the Yurchenko Double Pike on Saturday while Lee fine-tuned her uneven bars routine. Jordan Chiles, Jade Carey, and Hezly Rivera were pictured working on their vault routines as the team looks for ‘redemption’ at the Paris Olympics 2024.
Shortly after being welcomed at the Olympic Village, Simone Biles shared glimpses of her room in an Instagram story. The 27-year-old also shared the view outside her room, as well as selfies with Suni Lee and Jordan Chiles before heading to the training arena.
Biles is an overwhelming favorite to return with a medal tally similar to that at the 2016 Rio Olympics when she secured four gold medals in addition to a bronze. She will be hoping to bury the ghosts from the Tokyo Olympics and end her potentially final Olympic Games on a high note.
Simone Biles hints at retirement following Paris Olympics 2024
In the Netflix documentary, ‘Simone Biles: Rising’, the gymnast stated that she was looking to make her 2020 Tokyo Olympic campaign memorable as she hoped it would be her last. However, the ‘twisties’ didn't let her do that. But now that she has announced her ‘redemption’ at the Paris Olympics, does that mean it could be her last Olympic appearance?
Biles is among the oldest gymnasts ever to compete at the Olympics and though she is only 27, it's beyond the average age gymnasts announce their retirement. Following the Olympic Trials, the seven-time Olympic medalist also gave a slight hint about her future plans.
“They want to see the downfall, which is really unfortunate because sports hasn’t seen athletes like we’ve seen before. So you really have to give them their flowers in the sport because once they’re gone, you’re going to miss them,” she said (via AP News)
Biles will go on the Gold Over America tour following the Paris Olympics 2024. After that, she might compete one more time at the World Championships, but the LA Olympics 2028 do look like a pipe dream as of now.
