Simone Biles is the most decorated gymnast of all-time, and she has repeatedly used her platform to raise awareness about causes close to her heart. Recently, the American attended a charity gala for the non-profit Friends of the Children, and shared pictures of herself from the event.
2024 has been a busy year, and it doesn't seem to be ending anytime soon. The gymnast's competitive season began in May at the U.S Classic, and came to a close three months later in August at the Paris Olympics.
After multiple impressive performances on the domestic circuit, she dominated at the 2024 Games, winning the all-around, vault, and team gold, as well as a silver in the floor exercise.
Since ending her gymnastics season, Biles has embarked on the second iteration of her ‘Gold Over America' tour, traveling across the country. On 24th October, in the middle of her tour, Simone Biles headed to a charity gala for Friends of the Children, a non-profit that she has been working with for years now.
Sharing pictures of herself from the event, the gymnast stunned fans in her red-dress look.
Simone Biles on working with Friends of the Children
At the charity gala, Simone Biles donated $50,000 to Friends of the Children. The organization works with kids facing adverse situations, including those placed in foster care. As someone who grew up in foster care, Biles has been vocal about her experiences in the system.
Speaking about her donation to Friends of the Children, the gymnast told USA Today,
"It's so important to me because I can see myself in these kids and what they go through and what they go through. Sometimes the statistics can be against you, but having someone like me advocate for these kids, and knowing I went through some of the same similar situations that these kids have gone through and come out of it on top really inspires them.
"Growing up in foster (care), the statistics are just against you and it is what it is. But coming out on top of that, rising above − obviously I had my family to help, but I am who I am today because of foster care. And so I want the kids to also cherish and remember that and that you can do anything. It doesn't matter," she added.
Simone Biles has been associated with Friends of the Children for a long time now, helping the non-profit expand to her hometown of Austin, Texas, and even dedicating her second box of Wheaties to them. Recently, she was named as a ‘champion for children’ by the organization.
