Skye Blakely recalled her experience after facing an injury at the 2021 US Olympic Trials
Skye Blakely opened up about her mental health after facing a shoulder injury at the 2021 US Gymnastics trials.
In an interview released in June 2024, Blakely stated that she didn't interact much after the 2021 trials as the injury was quite traumatic to her. She also added that this chapter marked a major shift in her life. She said (via The Thompson Citizen):
"I didn't want to talk to anybody. Honestly, I kind of shut down after that meet. It was traumatic and I had to have surgery. So that was a big shift in my world, and for while it was hard for me to understand, and it just really hurt my feelings in my heart.”
Coincidentally Blakely also faced an injury before the 2024 US Olympics Trials, leaving her dream to make the Olympic team unfulfilled for this year. Despite being unable to make an Olympic team till now, the 19-year-old has a decorated trophy cabinet to boast.
She was part of two US teams that clinched gold medals at the Gymnastics World Championships. Additionally, she also clinched the all-around bronze medal at the 2022 Pan American Championships where she finished behind Flavia Saraiva and Lexi Zeiss.
