American freestyle wrestler Spencer Lee was recently seen training at the Hawkeye Wrestling Club in Iowa as he prepares for the 2024 Paris Olympics. Lee is set to represent the USA in the men’s freestyle 57 kg division as the wrestling events are slated to take place between August 5 to 11, 2024, at the Grand Palais Éphémère in Champ de Mars.
Last year, the 25-year-old signed a deal with Hawkeye Wrestling Club. As a result, he will be with the club for both the 2024 Paris Olympics and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
Representing the Iowa Hawkeyes during his collegiate career, Lee became a three-time NCAA champion in 2018, 2019, and 2021.
Alex Marinelli, who is a member of the Hawkeye Wrestling Club, recently shared glimpses of Spencer Lee’s training as the 25-year-old prepares himself for the Paris Olympics in the 57kg category.

In a bid to qualify for the Olympics, Lee first competed at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials Wrestling where he faced the 2020 Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist Thomas Gilman in the Best-of-Three Championship series. He went on to win the trials by defeating Gilman twice.
This ensured him a place in the USA squad for the 2024 Paris Olympics provided that he achieved a quota for the nation in the weight class at the World Wrestling Olympic Qualification Tournament in Istanbul, Turkey.
At the 2024 World Wrestling Qualification Tournament, Spencer Lee got the better of Rakhat Kalzhan of Kazakhstan via technical superiority (10-0) in the semi-finals and secured the quota for the USA in the 57 kg weight class.
A look into Spencer Lee’s top achievements
Lee is a two-time national champion in the men’s 57kg freestyle in 2023 and 2019. At the 2024 Pan American Championships in Acapulco, Mexico, he claimed the gold medal after defeating Pedro Mejías of Venezuela in the finals of the 57kg.
In addition, he collected the World Junior Wrestling Championships (U20) title twice, winning in 2015 and defending his title successfully in 2016. Besides this, he had won the World Championships U17 title in the 50kg weight in 2014. Additionally, he is a two-time Dan Hodge trophy winner.
